With just one lap remaining, Formula One restarted the race after sending out the safety car to perform some cleaning. Both Hamilton and Verstappen got off to a good start for the penultimate lap around the Yas Marina Circuit, but it was the British driver who quickly pulled ahead of his Dutch rival.
After following him closely for the first four turns of the race, Verstappen finally overtook him on the fifth corner and surged away in his Red Bull. It was a fitting conclusion to a season that saw the two contenders ride wheel-to-wheel with one other over the course of 22 races held across four continents, and arrive in Abu Dhabi tied for first place in the championship standings.
