Overview – The territory that is now known as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is located in the southeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula and has borders with both Saudi Arabia and Oman. In December of 1971, the United Arab Emirates established a federation of six emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al-Quwain, and Fujairah.

  • In 1972, Ras al Khaimah became a member of the federation, bringing the total number of member emirates to seven;
  • The largest and most prosperous of the seven emirates is home to Abu Dhabi, which serves as the nation’s capital city;

Since its founding in 1971, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has seen tremendous growth, becoming renowned for its cutting-edge infrastructure, its standing as a center for international events, as well as its role as a commercial and transportation hub.

What country is near Dubai?

Comparatively, Portugal has a somewhat larger landmass than the United Arab Emirates has. It shares its borders with Saudi Arabia to the west and Oman to the south and east as well as Oman to the north and northeast. There is still some disagreement on where exactly the borders of the country are located.

The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are claimed to have reached a secret deal in 1974 that was supposed to address all three of their boundary issues; however, the agreement’s legal validity is not apparent.

The United Arab Emirates have staked a claim to a stretch of coastline that they say should have been handed over to Saudi Arabia as part of the 1974 deal. This coastline is located to the northwest of Qatar and borders the emirate. It also contests Saudi claims to the Shaybah oil field, which is located to the south, while Saudi Arabia (along with Oman) has occasionally contested the emirates’ right to ownership of the oasis that are located close to the city of Al-Ain.

Can you drink in Dubai?

Alcohol Residents of the UAE are permitted to consume alcoholic beverages both in their homes and at licensed establishments. Residents in Dubai are still needed to have liquor licenses, although residents in Abu Dhabi and the other Emirates (with the exception of Sharjah) are no longer required to have such licenses in order to purchase alcohol for their own personal consumption.

The two authorised distributors of alcoholic beverages in Dubai will provide visitors a temporary liquor license that is valid for one month and may be obtained at no cost to the visitor. A paper including a code of conduct will be given to tourists, and they will be asked to affirm that they are aware of the rules and regulations that pertain to the purchase, transportation, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in Dubai.

This license is valid only in the Emirate from whence it was issued and cannot be used anywhere else. Although non-residents of the other Emirates are not eligible for liquor licenses, it is nonetheless permissible for tourists and visitors to purchase alcohol and consume it at licensed establishments like as hotels, restaurants, and clubs in the other Emirates.

You should be aware, however, that under the legislation of the United Arab Emirates, it is a serious offense to drink or be under the influence of alcohol in public places. People with British citizenship have been detained and charged with crimes under this statute, most frequently in circumstances in which they were brought to the attention of the police for another offense that is connected to it, such as engaging in behavior that is deemed to be offensive or disorderly.

The minimum age to purchase alcohol and consume it legally in Abu Dhabi is 18, however a by-law passed by the Ministry of Tourism prohibits hotels from offering alcohol to anybody less than 21 years old. The legal drinking age in Dubai and the other emirates, with the exception of Sharjah, is 21.

How is Dubai different from India?

It is very strange because this time last year, around the same time, I was super pleased to travel Dubai together with my family. Due to the current circumstances, when the globe is battling to battle the epidemic, this is something that is far-fetched from reality today.

They say that “you never grasp the value of anything until it’s gone,” and this is certainly true. When a result, as I was thinking back on the time I spent in Dubai, I had the idea of discussing some of the cultural contrasts that I observed in that country in comparison to India: 1) People in each of these locations have quite different kinds of lifestyles.

You may find stunning buildings in any of the main cities in India, right next to some of the most impoverished slums in the world. In comparison, the wealth gap in Dubai, while still there, is not nearly as significant, and the city itself is immaculately clean and well-kept, giving it the appearance of a setting from a science fiction movie.

  1. 2) The city life in India is definitely more chaotic and busy, which may be one of the reasons why India has a livelier, more adventurous feel going on;
  2. On the other hand, even at Dubai’s busiest moments, the city has a distinct aura, which is one of order, predictability, and comfort;

3) From what I’ve seen, there are not a lot of historical buildings or locations that date back more than a century that you may visit to learn about the history of Dubai and its culture. When compared to India, the city seemed almost spanking new. The cultural history of India dates back a very long time, and many of the country’s towns are filled to the brim with monuments and historic sites that represent India’s long-standing traditions.

  • 4) Whereas Dubai exuded a more contemporary vibe and was known for its lavish lifestyle, India is home to a greater number of religious and historical sites that illustrate the country’s history and culture;

5) It is very ironic that the same individual who throws trash out in an airport in India would do the same thing when they arrive in Dubai since that is the culture that has been embraced by the people in Dubai and because people have a tendency to do what they see around them.

  1. 6) There are thousands of fines for noncompliance of regulations in Dubai, from crossing the traffic signals to littering garbage on roads to keeping particular speed limits on highways; as a result, people in Dubai are aware of this fact; nevertheless, the same thing would be unfathomable in India, so to speak;

There is no disputing that despite the fact that these two locations are so distinct from one another, they both possess a unique allure that is very difficult to ignore. It is in your best interest to just give in and embark on an adventure to one of these amazing places.
