TOLGA AKMEN / AFP – Getty Images July 31, 2019, 8:54 AM UTC LONDON — The estranged wife of Dubai’s ruler sought for protection orders in a British court Tuesday invoking rules meant to defend victims of forced marriages and domestic violence, while the sheikh’s attorneys demanded that their two children be immediately returned to Dubai.

The forced marriage protection order extended to the children. She requested for wardship of the children during the preliminary hearing. The identities and ages of the youngsters are not authorized to be publicized under British law. Princess Haya, who is Sheikh Mohammed’s sixth wife and the daughter of the late King Hussein of Jordan, reportedly departed Dubai early this year.

Family court Judge Andrew McFarlane rejected a plea from Sheikh Mohammed’s attorneys to have specifics about the protection orders subject to publication limitations. “There is a public interest in the public understanding, in very broad words, actions that are before the court,” he stated.

Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is a member of the royal family of Dubai.
